IRENA-Report – Scaling up Variable Renewable Power:

The Role of Grid Codes

Bonn/Darmstadt, May 2016

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), supported by a consultancy work led by energynautics, has published a report discussing the role of Grid Codes in the context of increasing shares of variable renewable energies. An overview of technical requirements for generators is provided. Differences between countries are analyzed based on selected examples and are presented in the report.

This study is part of IRENA activities aiming to support policy-makers and regulators, especially in countries with low VRE planning, to significantly increase their VRE share in the power system.
