Cell Controller Project

The Cell Controller is a new architecture for intelligent mobilization of distributed energy resources such as CHP and wind power plants. The system is implemented in a 60 kV distribution “Cell” in Denmark.

In normal operation the plant operators (balance responsible parties) control their generators while at the same time advanced voltage control for the DNO is performed. These functions can be replaced by technical virtual power plant operations for active and/or reactive power independently by the TSO in contingency situations. In emergency situations the distribution system can be transferred to safe island operation. The concept was demonstrated in full-scale field tests.

The project was carried out in cooperation with Spirae Inc., USA. Energynautics was responsible for the power system studies and testing the Cell Controller functions in simulations prior to the field tests.
