Innovative Grid Toolbox

In this study, the requirements of today’s grid operation are explained and an outlook to 2030 is given. In particular, the limits of grid operation and challenges of strong increase of renewable energies are considered. Furthermore, different tools, which are remedial measures or solutions to the determined issues, are proposed. The examined tools are: High temperature low sag conductors and dynamic line rating, concepts of storage usage, active distribution grids, possibilities to control load flows, online Dynamic Security Assessment (DSA) and abandonment of (n-1)-criterion. These tools are assessed according to effectiveness, feasibility and further relevant criteria. Finally, recommendations for politics will be given.
