Future-Ready Grid Expansion
High-Resolution Spatial Forecasts for Distributed Energy Resources in Low-Voltage Grids
The spatial forecasting tool delivers high-resolution load and generation projections for low-voltage grids – providing local, customized, and future-proof insights. Developed through a successful collaboration between Energynautics, geodata specialist enwarp gmbh, and Thüga AG (Germany’s largest association of municipal energy and water utilities), the tool is available to utilities nationwide via a user-friendly online platform.
Advancing the Energy Transition in Distribution Grids
The electrification of transportation and heating, combined with rapid distributed generation growth, is creating unprecedented challenges for distribution system operators (DSOs). To plan grid expansion effectively, DSOs need comprehensive insights into future connection demands and potential network constraints.
The web portal enables DSOs to advance grid expansion confidently and strategically, using precise projections of load and generation trends in the distribution grid. The results reveal future grid expansion requirements early, providing a solid foundation for strategic network development planning.

A Practical Tool for Distribution System Operators
The web portal provides a flexible solution for simulating and evaluating regional scenarios, capturing both current conditions and future potential of all relevant load and generation drivers within a single integrated system.
Technical, geographic, and socioeconomic data are combined to forecast the long-term development of distributed energy resources such as EV charging stations, heat pumps, and rooftop PV systems. The methodology accounts for both spatial distribution patterns and the expected peak capacities of emerging loads and distributed generation.
Scenarios can be readily adapted to reflect evolving regulatory requirements, emerging technologies, and shifting market dynamics.
The underlying methodology was developed by Energynautics and is subject to continuous optimization.
Key Benefits at a Glance
- Comprehensive Outlook: All relevant local load and generation drivers in one integrated system, available at building-level resolution or aggregated by transformer station
- Superior Data Quality: Continuously updated data foundation incorporating new development areas, building characteristics, socioeconomic factors, charging infrastructure changes, and district heating network expansions
- Rapid Adaptability: Quick response to evolving policy frameworks and updates to the national Network Development Plan (NDP)
- Tailored Scenarios: Generate projections for any sub-grid, timeframe, and specific local conditions – including varying municipal climate targets
- Seamless Coordination: Enable integrated infrastructure development by aligning projections with complementary planning processes such as municipal heat planning
- Ongoing Innovation: Continuous addition of new analytical capabilities, including evaluation of controllable load management (e.g., 4.2 kW curtailment for EVs and heat pumps per §14a EnWG)
