Latest Developments in Hybrid Power Plants and Island Power Systems
Successful Conclusion of the 10th Hybrid Power Plants & Systems Workshop in Sardinia

The 10th edition of the International Hybrid Power Plants & Systems Workshop has officially come to a successful close. Gathering in Sardinia, a region often described as a “living laboratory” for the energy transition, this year’s event brought together over 115 participants from more than 20 countries for a high-level technical exchange.
A Mediterranean Focus on System Stability
The workshop opened with a keynote session dedicated to the unique complexities of Mediterranean power grids. As islands like Sardinia and Sicily navigate rapid renewable expansion and complex HVDC interconnections, they provide critical insights for the global energy community.
The opening plenary featured strategic perspectives from:
- The Sardinian Power System: Matteo Contu & Cosimo Pisani (Terna S.p.A., Italy)
- The Power Grid of Sicily: Rossano Musca (University of Palermo, Italy)
- Insights into the Corsican Power System: Gregoire Prime (EDF, France) & Alberto Pagnetti (EDF-SEI-Corsica, France)
Technical Depth and Global Dialogue
Over the course of two days, the program featured 60+ expert presentations across 17 technical sessions. The dialogue bridged the gap between academic research and industrial application, focusing on key technologies such as grid-forming inverters, advanced Energy Management Systems (EMS), and sector coupling.
Participants explored international case studies from diverse environments—including the Caribbean, Canada, and the Faroe Islands—emphasizing that while every isolated grid is unique, the challenges of stability and resilience are universal.
Gratitude to Our Partners
An event of this scale and technical caliber relies on the support of dedicated partners. A special thank you goes our national partner Terna S.p.A. for their outstanding collaboration and local insights, and to our sponsors for their generous support, which plays a vital role in enabling high-quality knowledge exchange at our events.
We also thank all speakers and attendees for sharing their technical expertise and for the high quality of the contributions that defined this workshop.
