Continuation of power system planning trainings for the African Power Pools

Energynautics supports African Union Development Agency in delivering a second series of power system planning trainings to African Power Pools

The African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) has organised a series of specialised trainings to support the African power pools in enhancing their transmission network planning capacity. This is vital preparation for Africa’s Continental Master Plan (CMP) which is currently being developed under AUDA-NEPAD’s leadership.

Together with AUDA-NEPAD and the EU Global Technical Assistance Facility (EU-GTAF), the five regional power pools CAPPSAPPEAPP, COMELEC and WAPP make up the CMP modelling team. The CMP helps to analyse and map out Africa’s energy infrastructure as an important base for the African Single Electricity Market (AfSEM) and for enhancing cross-border trading and supply.

The European programme GET.transform contracted Energynautics to provide a second series of corresponding capacity trainings for the five power pools, following up on a first series in early 2023. The attending stakeholders were trained on the transfer of generation capacity expansion results to network modelling software to conduct subsequent steady-state load flow and dynamic stability analysis.

The advanced skills gained through the trainings allowed the CMP modelling team to refine the network modelling approaches and provided a solid foundation for completing the network studies for the CMP.
